TIMESJEMBER, JAKARTA – Heart disease has still become one of the most common causes of death. Although, it is preventable with a healthy lifestyle. One of the many ways to reduce the risk of a heart attack is the consumption of healthy foods.

1.      Berries

Strawberries, blueberries, cranberries, raspberries, and the other berries are not only delicious but also capable to maintain heart health. Besides their high content of antioxidants, berries also contain phytonutrient, a compound capable to maintain heart health.

2.      Nuts

Nuts contain a high amount of fiber which is good for the heart. Nuts also capable to reduce the amount of LDL in the blood. A high amount of LDL in the blood increases the risk of heart diseases. Another benefit of eating nuts is to prevent blood clots which may cause a heart attack. Try to eat almonds or hazelnuts as your snack.

3.      Green vegetables

Green vegetables such as spinach and kale are famous for their healthy properties. These vegetables contain a high amount of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. These vegetables also contain a high amount of vitamin K which helps to maintain arteries and prevent blood clots.

4.      Avocado

Avocado contains healthy fat which is good for heart health because of its capability to reduce cholesterol level and thereby reduces the risk of heart diseases. A study shows that from 17,567 people who often eat avocadoes have lower risks of metabolism syndromes. This fruit also contains potassium, essential nutrition for heart health.

5.      Tomato

Tomatoes contain lycopene, a kind of antioxidant which able to prevent heart inflammation. This antioxidant also prevents oxidative damage in the heart and arteries.

Studies show that low lycopene in the blood is very relatable with the risk of heart attack and stroke.

6.      Fish fat

Some fish have more fat than others, such as salmon, mackerel, and sardine. These fishes contain a high amount of omega 3 which is very good for heart health. Study shows that the consumption of salmon three times a week can reduce systolic blood pressure.
